Lonnie Hand
We mourn the loss of our friends, neighbors and relatives who have passed. Our memories of life at the Lake are entertwined with our memories of those who shared their lives with us here.
Alonzo (Lonnie) Hand Jr. passed away peacefully, surrounded by beloved family and friends, on Wednesday, 6 November 2024. Lonnie was born on 21 January 1952 in Sloatsburg, NY, to Ardoth (Ryerson) and Alonzo Hand Sr.
For those who knew him, it was no secret that his passions lay in the natural world. Lonnie was an avid outdoorsman, conservationist and artist. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and telling tall tales about his adventures. True or false, he always caught the record-setter. He was a fantastic chef, and delighted in developing culinary creations for his family and friends.
Lonnie’s latest passion project was renovating the lake house at Yankee Lake. He was always on the hunt for treasures to decorate it with once it was finished.
Lonnie was very proud of his three daughters, but it was his twin granddaughters that captured his heart. He loved to do over-the-top gift giving sessions, send videos of himself feeding his chipmunks and could be counted upon to send a daily Dad joke.
Lonnie was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his daughters; Allison Meister, Elmwood, NE, Jennifer Hand, Walden, NY and Sarah Hand, Nelson, NE; granddaughters, Lane and Ellie Meister; sisters, Cindie Barrera, Robin Henry Ellefson, KarenAnn Cabrera; brothers, Gary Hand, Rich Hand, and Joey Hand; and numerous nieces and nephews.
