Richard Loncar
We mourn the loss of our friends, neighbors and relatives who have passed. Our memories of life at the Lake are entertwined with our memories of those who shared their lives with us here.
Richard M. Loncar, age 85, passed away on Sunday, 1 January 2023, surrounded by his family at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in Manhattan.
Born in Manhattan on 6 February 1937, Richard was the son of Nicholas and Dorothy (Dalley) Loncar. He was raised in Washington Heights and educated at George Washington High School. At age 17, Richard joined the US Army and was stationed in Newfoundland Canada as a landing craft Coxswain.
On 4 January 1964, he married Rita Agius. They would have celebrated 59 years of marriage on 4 January 2023.
Richard earned a Bachelors degree in accounting, and a Masters degree in Theology, from Fordham University. A man of remarkable charisma and charm, Richard began his career as a successful salesman holding employment with various Fortune 500 Companies until he followed his dream of becoming an Entrepreneur. In 1972, he formed a privately owned corporation, a botanical ingredient supply company catering to the cosmetic and personal care industry. His brilliant vision, tireless work ethic, and business acumen ensured market success, having just celebrated its 51st year in business. During this time, he also owned and operated other related businesses that continue to operate to this day.
Richard was a consummate reader and student of history, as well as Philosophy. He also was a marvelous home chef, and loved entertaining and preparing world-class meals for his family. Always passionate about current events, he voraciously read multiple newspapers daily, cover to cover. He never felt the need to retire and went to the office every day to keep the company moving in the right direction and his brain sharp. He loved fishing, but we believe that fishing was just an excuse to be around his beloved friends.
Richard was a selfless and generous man who prioritized his family above all.
He is survived by his wife, Rita (Agius) Loncar; his sister, Barbara Smith; brother and sister-in-law, Phillip and Lenore Loncar; his sons and daughters-in-law: Clifford and Terese Loncar, Greg and Birgit Loncar; and his daughter and son-in-law Laura and Gavin Cooper.
Richard was deeply loved and will be missed by his grandchildren, Sophia, Anna, Brynne, Paige, Mason and Olivia. He is predeceased by his parents, Nicholas and Dorothy (Dalley) Loncar, his sister Dorothy, and a beloved Uncle, Howard Dalley.
He will be immensely missed by his entire family and friends.
