We mourn the loss of our friends, neighbors and relatives who have passed. Our memories of life at the Lake are entertwined with our memories of those who shared their lives with us here.
Bill Crawford, 20 year companion of Theresa O’Keefe, passed away suddenly at Yankee Lake on August 6th. He is survived by his mother Betty and sister Martha. Bill was an integral part of the Yankee Lake community and will truly be missed. In the past, he volunteered his spare time repairing the Clubhouse stairs. He could always be counted on to help with the clean up after our opening season and year-end season gatherings.
The O’Keefe’s have been seasonal residents at the Lake since 1936. For the past 20 years Bill enjoyed the same love of the Lake that they all do. He enjoyed fishing, kayaking, playing cribbage, biking with several members of our community, and a good pale ale. The O’Keefe family will forever miss the best Guacamole ever, as well as the friendly banter whenever his Red Sox played the Yankees, or the Patriots played the Jets. Bill loved to spend relaxing afternoons at the Basha Kill Winery with family and friends. He was a carpenter by trade and often spent his weekends helping neighbors with household repairs. Whitman Road Right-of-Way Corporation, the entity that owns the access road to the right-of-way used by the O’Keefe family, called upon him countless times over the years for assistance with numerous issues.
Donations in Bill’s memory can be sent to the Treasure Coast Hospice Foundation, 1201 SE Indian Street, Stuart, FL 34997, Attn: Ashley Haughton, or directly through their website (www.treasurehealth.org/donate).
